What's organic, anyway?
There’s a lot of confusion today about what makes a product organic—and safe....
In personal and home care, manufacturers are not required to fully disclose their ingredients, so products bearing the name “organic” or “made with certified organic” may also include petrochemicals and their derivatives.....
A certified organic seal is the best assurance that our products are good for us and for our environment. The only seals we can really trust, however, are the seals from the highest organic certifying agencies, which don’t allow for ANY petro-chemicals or harmful synthetic ingredients. The certifiers with the most stringent standards to date are the USDA and Soil Association (UK).
United States Department of Agriculture awards its seal to products whose total contents are 100% certified organic, or whose total contents are 95% certified organic where the remaining 5% of contents are drawn from a small, select number of ingredients that are not organically grown, and pose no known risk to health or environment.
